Academic Excellence

Academic excellence focuses on achieving the maximum development of each student’s capacities and nurturing their potential and talent so they may develop the knowledge, critical thinking skills, and character to succeed in a technologically advanced world.

To ensure academic excellence, we must be committed to the social, emotional, and academic development of each student. This means that we:

  • Provide a safe school environment that fosters positive character and individual accountability

  • Nurture the development of the social and emotional skills necessary for academic growth

  • Create productive citizens who think critically and make informed decisions

  • Value individuality and encourage all to achieve to their highest capability

  • Prepare college-bound students for success

  • Hold students accountable for their performance and citizenship

  • Support students, parents and teachers by working collaboratively to further develop best practices

  • Cultivate a climate of continuous improvement

While implementing these objectives, we commit to clear and open communication with students and families. This includes providing timely and meaningful information on student progress and offering suggestions for assisting their academic growth.

budget accountability

To continue to meet the educational goals of our students, we need to ensure the long term financial viability and sustainability of our district.

Fiscal sustainability needs to underpin all of our actions. When managing the financial health of our district, it is important that we:

  • Work towards a sustainable budget that protects the investment in our schools

  • Prioritize limited financial resources to achieve the largest impact on student performance

  • Ensure continued high levels of investment in and out of the classroom so that teachers and students have the support and the best technology tools they need to do their best work

  • Provide transparency so that all parents and community members understand where the money is spent

Community Collaboration

A successful school district is engaged with the local community, especially parents. This involves clear and consistent communication, honesty at all levels, and open and transparent decision making. “I will not make decisions based on how special interest groups pressure the board. Parents and students need an independent voice to look out for their interests. Transparency, clear communication, and independence are the hallmarks of a well-managed school system and school board.”

“As a member of the Board of Trustees, I pledge to focus on academic excellence, budget responsibility and community engagement as the fundamental pillars of our school system, to ensure that our students are prepared to become responsible citizens and lead purposeful lives.”
